November 13-14, 16-17, 2023 | MAIN Building
A big part of high school is learning more about your own interests and talents. This is a journey that will take you beyond graduation, as you consider choices like college and career. No matter what your plans are after Senior Year, it is never too early to think how you can turn those interests and talents into a career that you love.
CAREER Week is about giving you a chance to speak directly to working members of our community about their career. Hear right from them about their journey to where they are now. |

All students need connections between their school experience and their plans after Graduation. High school plays a significant role in helping you turn your interests and talents into an occupation and career. This process involves many stages and decisions as you from transition from classrooms towards a career.
Interests & Talents
One of the most important first steps is to begin to think about your interests, passions and talents.
One of the ways to help look at possibilities is to look at the Career Clusters that group similar skills (See below...)
- What kind of things to do you like to do?
- What are you good at?
- Are there problems you are interested in solving?
- Are there goals you have set for yourself?

HIGH SCHOOL Experience
There are many ways that your experience in high school can help you learn more about yourself and areas of interest.
When you choose your classes and make your four-year plan, having a Career Orientation means thinking about three things:
A sequence is 2 or more classes taken in consecutive years that build on another and help advance knowledge and experience in a certain area.
A pathway is more defined than a sequence and is specific to a series of courses that align to a certain career area.
An endorsement is an official designation for students who finish certain pathways that indicates they are ready for post-secondary study or the workplace in that particular area.

Student ACTIVITIES
Beyond the classroom, Student Activities can be very valuable. You can learn more about a certain area to see if it is something you enjoy. Students Activities can develop and grow your own skill and expertise. Some examples include: Being around other interested students, hearing from professionals and experts, participating in field experiences and competing against other schools and teams.

CAREER CLUSTERS are groups of related types of work. They give you an easy way to explore different kinds of jobs within one broad category. Start with one of the clusters—like health care or construction—to learn what it involves, current trends, and the different careers it offers.
It’s often easier to change jobs and advance within a career cluster. Identifying with a cluster can help you build your career and choose credentials—such as a college degree, specialized training, or certifications—that will qualify you for a variety of different, but related, jobs.
